Practices include training in attentional stability and increased emotional awareness, as well as targeted analytical reflections to understand better one’s relationship with self and others.
Two levels of training are recommended by the European Academy of DentoMaxilloFacial Radiology (Brown et al. 2014); level 1 training (core course) to be undertaken by those prescribing CBCT examinations and those involved in the acquisition of CBCT imaging, and level 2 training (advanced training) for those interpreting on CBCT image volumes and offering a CBCT imaging and reporting service.

On March 31st 2011, a SEDENTEXCT Workshop on dental CBCT was held in Leeds, UK, under the auspices of the British Society of Dental and Maxillofacial Radiology. Over 100 participants were present from across Europe, including dental radiologists, medical physicists, national regulatory or advisory bodies and equipment manufacturers and representatives.
The European Academy of DentoMaxilloFacial Radiology (EADMFR) CBCT training guidelines* state dentists referring for CBCT should have at least 12 hours of theoretical training (this course complements a six hour IRMER course to make a 12 hour CBCT referrer training portfolio). A collaboration between EADMFR and the SEDENTEXCT project in 2009 established some consensus ‘Basic Principles’ of the use of dental CBCT, and amongst these was a principle that: ‘CBCT equipment should offer a choice of volume sizes and examinations and must use the smallest that is compatible with the clinical situation if this provides less radiation dose to the patient’ .
